I'm wondering what you think of the recommendations made...

The date on the Pickens Report is May 2007. The District was still actively using the same stall tactics on parents while this report was being investigated and written. I am afraid that while this looks good on paper, it will be status quo for the Special Ed. Department of Pickens County.
The report also found they were compliant with the 60 day timeline. That is so true because they stall parents by not letting them sign the request to evaluate, nor will they give them prior written notice. This can go on forever!!!! Is there a way to track that? How long does it take for parents to be able to sign the consent to evaluate or receive prior written notice?

Hello and welcome!
It took quite some time to research and put together the report. Then it had to be given to the board along with what the district was going to do to fix the problems. (One of the solutions is a new Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and a compliance coordinator for special ed.) After that it had to go to the district and school level people.
As for the timeline.... It was based on about 5 case files picked at random. This is why statistical process control (SPC) is not accepted as the best means of quality control. However, it's not like the man could go through too many or we wouldn't get the report until 2032..... Still, the report indicates getting the actual testing done in relation to when the IEP meeting was held. It indicates the need for an additional psycologist to do evaluations.
These all make for steps in the right direction and that's coming from the "volunteer parent educator" they think is such a problem! There is a board meeting the 4th Monday of each month. The more people at the board meetings the better. They need to see our faces to know we are serious and we won't go away,,,,
